If anyone had told Karl and Lucy (especially Karl) a year ago that they would be running the London Marathon 2018 and raising (to date) £10,010 for Leukaemia Care, they both would have laughed!
For those of you who don’t know Karl and Lucy, Karl (Howell) is a Plumbco director and Lucy is an integral member of staff at Plumbco’s sister company, Goodey and Howell. She works in the Wellingborough branch. Lucy is a keen runner, Karl… not so keen but shared one thing in common, neither of them had taken on the Marathon challenge before!
So what spurred the pair on?
After Andrew Goodey, managing director, dear friend and work colleague beat Leukaemia in 2017, thanks to amazing treatment that he received, it only seemed right that Karl gave something back to the right charity for helping his best-friend and business partner fight blood cancer.
Leukaemia Care provide the most fantastic support from the point of diagnosis of this horrible bloody cancer, for the diagnosed and the people who are closest to them, who can often carry a lot of emotional strain. The charity’s mission is to ensure anyone affected by blood cancer receives the right information, advice and support. And they are absolutely incredible at making sure they do this! But of course, a charity only survives with the support of others and that’s why running the marathon and raising a target of £6000 meant so much to Karl, Lucy, friends, family and everyone at Plumbco and Goodey and Howell.
So the training began and the Just Giving page was set up to receive donations right from the off! They had well under a year of training but incredibly the pair of them, through dedication and determination ran the London Marathon 22nd April 2018 Karl with the time of * and Lucy 4hours 55minutes. They both did incredibly well and have now raised, £10,010 for Leukaemia Care which is 166% of their initial target.
The donations are still coming in and we would all like to say a BIG thank you for all of the donations which are being matched by Plumbco and Goodey and Howell too. We will be absolutely delighted to handover a very large cheque to a charity close to all of our hearts and that deserve it so much.
Well done Karl and Lucy, you are both very inspiring and what you have done is simply superb!
